Add Your First Products

Build your complete product catalog with pricing, tax rates, units, and opening stock so you can bill faster and track inventory accurately.

Step-by-step guide

   Navigate to the Items section

   From the main menu, tap Inventory > Items. This is your central product catalog where all items, services, and packages are managed. You can add, edit, or deactivate products at any time without losing historical data.

   Tap "Add Item" and fill in basic details

   Enter the item name, item code (SKU), and a brief description. A clear, consistent naming convention — such as "Brand + Product + Variant" — makes it easy to find products quickly during billing at the counter.

   Set the selling price and purchase price

   Enter your standard selling price (MRP or retail price) and purchase/cost price. Khata Tracker uses these values to calculate your gross margin automatically in the Profit & Loss report without any extra manual work.

   Assign the correct tax rate

   Select the GST tax slab applicable to this product — typically 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28%. The tax rate is applied automatically on every invoice and purchase entry, keeping your tax calculations accurate and consistent.

   Add opening stock quantity

   Enter the quantity currently in stock as your opening balance. This allows Khata Tracker to start tracking stock movements from day one, and all future sales and purchases will adjust this figure in real time.

   Save and repeat for all products

   Tap "Save Item" to add the product to your catalog. Repeat the process for each product. You can also use the bulk import feature (Settings > Import Data) to upload hundreds of products at once via an Excel file.
