Frequently asked questions about the GST Calculator
Can this GST calculator work for inclusive prices?
Yes. Choose inclusive mode and the calculator will back-calculate taxable value and GST amount from the total price.
What is the difference between GST inclusive and GST exclusive?
GST exclusive means the tax is added on top of the base price. GST inclusive means the price already includes the tax — the calculator splits out the taxable value for you.
What are the GST rates in India?
GST in India is levied at 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% depending on the goods or services. Most common items fall under 5%, 12%, or 18%. You can select the applicable rate in this calculator.
What is CGST and SGST?
For intrastate transactions (buyer and seller in the same state), GST is split equally into CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST). For example, 18% GST becomes 9% CGST + 9% SGST.
When is IGST applied instead of CGST and SGST?
IGST (Integrated GST) applies to interstate transactions — when the buyer and seller are in different states. The full GST rate is charged as a single IGST amount.
How do I find the taxable value from a GST-inclusive price?
Use the formula: Taxable Value = Inclusive Price ÷ (1 + GST Rate / 100). This calculator does this automatically when you select the inclusive mode.
Does this replace professional GST advice?
No. It is useful for quick estimates, but final tax treatment should be verified using the applicable GST rules for your business.
